New agreement makes Adobe software available on IUware

Greg Moore, UITS Communications Office
A host of Adobe software is now available at no additional cost to IU students, faculty, staff, and departments. Indiana University has entered into a groundbreaking software agreement with Adobe: the Adobe Education Enterprise License Agreement (Adobe EELA) — the first such agreement between Adobe and any university. As a pilot higher-education agreement for Adobe, this enterprise-wide agreement makes a wide range of Adobe software available to the IU community at no cost on IUware Online:
http://iuware.iu.edu/
Individual pricing for Adobe products has often been cost prohibitive for many departments, students, faculty, and staff. This agreement makes Adobe software readily available to the entire IU community.
Adobe software will be available for purchase on physical media at discounted prices in early spring semester 2009. This agreement leverages IU’s capabilities in software distribution, support and training, and advances the teaching, learning, and research goals outlined in IU’s new strategic plan for information technology, “Empowering People: Indiana University’s Strategic Plan for Information Technology.” For more information on the strategic plan, see:
http://ovpit.iu.edu/itsp2/index.php
Adobe products — including previously acquired Macromedia products — are in great demand by IU students, faculty, and staff. Adobe software is used throughout IU for:
Systems development — both enterprise-wide and within schools and departments
Creative work — including web content and design, web authoring and development, videography, graphic design, podcasting, 3D animation, and high-impact mobile content
Teaching and learning — integration into the curriculum for engaging digital experiences and for creating interactive web sites
Collaboration systems — for use in administration, research, and faculty and student communication
Document preparation and presentation — for uses throughout and beyond the institution
For more information on what software is available through the Adobe agreement, and how can you get it, including the necessary license key/serial number, see:
https://kb.iu.edu/data/aksj.html
IU students, employees, and faculty emeriti may use the products covered by the Adobe ELA while affiliated with Indiana University. All institutional systems are licensed to use the products during the term of the ELA. Students may install one copy of the licensed software for their use on a personally owned computer at home, whether home is on or off campus. Faculty and staff may use the products on personally owned computers at home for university-related business.

A podcast of Vice President for Information Technology Brad Wheeler and Associate Vice President for Support Sue Workman speaking about the agreement is also available at:

Remember To Log Off Your Workstation

Whether working at a computer specifically assigned to you or one available for public access (in a computer lab or shared housing), make sure you log off before you walk away and leave it unattended. You can also lock a workstation without completely logging off if you only plan to step away for a quick second.
Forgetting to log off or lock a workstation not only puts your personal data and reputation at risk, but it can also pose a risk to the entire network.

For more about keeping your computer, accounts, or data safe, see:
